Santiago Vernaza Civetta

Santiago focuses his practice on conflict resolution, with an emphasis in national and international arbitration. Santiago has experience in different types of national litigation (constitutional, administrative, and commercial) and in national and international arbitration in different industries. Additionally, Santiago has advised private and public clients in administrative and constitutional law matters.

Before joining Zuleta Asociados, Santiago was a part of the Public Law and Litigation teams at Esguerra Asesores Jurídicos. Santiago has been a graduate assistant to the Introduction to Law and Constitution and Democracy lectures at Universidad de los Andes. Santiago got his law degree from Universidad de los Andes (2018). He received the academical distinction cum laude and his graduate work received the distinction of “Meritoria”. As an undergraduate student, he worked has an assistant to professors Daniel Bonilla and Julieta Lemaitre in international, constitutional, and comparative law matters.

  • Currently part of the team that represents a concessionaire in an international arbitration related to an EPC contract in a 4G project.
  • Currently part of the team that represents a concessionaire in an international arbitration related to a concession agreement in a 4G project, and that advises that concessionaire in the performance of said contract.
  • Currently part of the team that represents a State-owned company in several arbitration proceedings related to oil transportation contracts.
  • Part of the team that represented a financial services company in several constitutional and commercial proceedings related to alleged breaches of trust agreements.
  • Part of the team that represented a bank in the annulment of an arbitration award related to a 4G project.
  • Part of the team that represented a financial sector guild in a constitutional action initiated against a statute that amended certain tax laws.
  • Part of the team that represented one of Colombia’s most important mining companies in an administrative process related to its environmental permits.
